As we all retreat indoors to protect our health and those around us, many wonder what they can do to help their local communities on an individual and corporate level.
In conjunction with Litify’s internal Letters of Love volunteering event, we spoke with some of our team members and Good Today Executive Director Jeff Dobrinsky about how we can all do our part to make a positive impact on the world around us.
Organizing Employee Volunteering at Home
You don’t have to meet in-person in order to give back. If volunteering has been a key part of your office culture (and if it hasn’t, now’s a great time to start!), there are multiple reasons why you should continue as your team works from home.
Uniting for a common cause is a great way to bring employees together and build a positive, collaborative culture.
Litify recently participated in Letters of Love: an initiative organized by Love for the Elderly that mails handwritten letters to isolated senior citizens.
Litify sent stationery and envelopes to each employee and scheduled a Zoom call so everyone could connect as they wrote their letters. It’s an easy way to bring remote employees together during this time.
Make Giving a Habit
Litify uses the platform Good Today to give back on a daily basis. The platform integrates with Slack and features a new cause every day, giving donors the choice between two charities to support that addresses the daily cause.
Jeff Dobrinsky shared that he created the platform with two principles in mind: offering users a choice in their giving, and making donating as frictionless as possible (through Slack or email). Their goal is that users will create a mental habit of daily giving that they take with them throughout their day.
Engagement remains high on the platform despite economic challenges. Many users have reached out to suggest new charities to feature on the platform, which Good Today welcomes.
Though charitable donations are often the first item slashed from company budgets, Dobrinksy shared that there are tangible benefits to donating and volunteering, other than simply doing the right thing. By creating a culture of giving back, companies can help attract top talent. Many employees want to feel like their work has meaning, and corporate giving can help provide that.
Find a Cause That Resonates With You
Whether you are giving back on an individual level or as a company, it’s important to find a charity or cause that you have a personal connection with.
For Litify, that’s giving back to social justice nonprofits through our charitable arm, Litify.org. In addition to donating company time and money to these organizations, we also offer discounted licenses to ensure they have access to the best technology possible.
On an individual level, panelists shared that they are organizing fundraisers for local food banks, running errands for elderly neighbors, and sewing homemade masks for medical professionals.
As Dobrinksy emphasizes, no contribution is too small. One small act every day culminates into a large wave of good.
