Cesar Ornelas Law Firm: Increasing Case Production by 33% Without Adding Headcount

Cesar Ornelas Law Firm, a Texas-based personal injury firm, struggled with inconsistent data entry and limited reporting capabilities on their previous system. To continue growing, including by expanding into immigration law, the firm needed a stronger solution to unlock the insights that would move the business forward.
That is how Litify’s platform of action became the foundation of the firm’s operations.
Scattered data and limited insight
Before implementing Litify, the firm used a legacy system that wasn’t designed to provide the visibility the firm needed. “There were a lot of issues with people not putting information in the system, so our data was scattered everywhere,” Michelle Gelatt, Innovation Strategist at Cesar Ornelas, explained.
Without structured data, reporting was difficult, and leadership lacked reliable insight into performance. Teams were working hard, but there was no consistent way to measure impact, set goals, or refine processes.
Building a high-performing pre-litigation team
“With Litify, we centralized our data and can now get stronger insights from our data,” Gelatt said. “We’ve also created really powerful dashboards that have helped us scale and improve our processes. The result has been impressive year-over-year changes for us, which have been really exciting to watch.”
With a single source of truth in place, the firm embarked on an experiment: “We created a pre-litigation team that handles all our cases before they get passed to our litigation attorneys. We tailored Litify and our matter plans to what they needed to do their work most effectively,” Gelatt explained.
The experiment paid off. “From the number of settlements they handled in 2023, they more than doubled that in 2024. And then in 2025, they did about 25-33% more,” Gelatt shared.
Gelatt added, “Now, management uses each of their team dashboards to set goals, which we can easily display for added visibility, and that's what they work toward every month and every quarter.”
Leveraging AI for medical chronologies and tracking damages
After optimizing workflows and reporting, the firm turned its attention to another major friction point: administrative work, particularly within document management. They implemented Litify AI, including LitifyAI Ask and LitifyAI Damages Assistant, to alleviate the burden of time-consuming tasks.
Now, instead of spending hours combing through medical records, the firm can use LitifyAI to create concise case summaries and source-linked medical chronologies, allowing case managers to focus on strategy, client communication, and case development.
Damages tracking was another time-intensive, manual process for Cesar Ornelas. As Gelatt explained, “Our team spent a lot of time doing data entry: putting in damages, making sure that all the fields were correct, and updating the damage payments.”
By implementing LitifyAI Damages Assistant, the firm aims to improve both efficiency and completeness. “Our goal is to identify what’s missing and close the net so the least amount of data escapes. We've had instances where someone misses a bill, and we're trying to do everything we can to ensure that doesn't happen.”
Gelatt notes, “The biggest day-to-day benefit over time is going to be the reduction of administrative tasks. I want my end users to have more time to actually be case managers. They’re not meant to be putting data into boxes. Let an AI automate that, and let humans be human.”
“The simpler I can make it for my end users to work with AI, the higher the adoption is going to be. If I can keep it in a tool that they're already using, something they already have to log into, and then they already understand how to use, it's less daunting and overwhelming for them,” she added.
What’s next for Cesar Ornelas?
Cesar Ornelas Law Firm continues to push toward intelligent automation and smarter workflows.
The team is currently implementing AI-powered telephony integrations to automatically generate call logs and summaries. They are also exploring intelligent document processing to categorize, summarize, and auto-populate fields inside Litify.
“We want to automate the data entry and allow the team to have more human connection with their clients, while also being able to do their jobs effectively,” Gelatt added.
Gelatt and her team are also looking forward to leveraging Litify’s upcoming prompt library to uplevel the entire firm and take their AI usage to the next level. “Our case managers and legal assistants haven't dedicated their lives to prompt writing and AI. So having a library of good, effective prompts that they can pull from and tweak to what they need is going to be so helpful.”
By centralizing data, building structured processes, and embedding AI directly into daily workflows, Cesar Ornelas Law Firm has positioned itself for sustained, measurable growth.
