Help Your Best Practice Become Your Common Practice

“I realized that proprietary software isn’t what I needed. I needed something that was competitive, that other businesses were using, and I love that Litify is scalable so we can add to it over time,” Jefferson Fisher, Owner, The Fisher Firm

The Fisher Firm is a personal injury law firm based in Southeast Texas. It’s a new law firm founded by Jefferson Fisher. After working at a larger full service defense firm for the last eight years, Jefferson decided to take a new step in his career and build a new firm from the ground up as Founder and CEO.

With three attorneys now on staff and plans to continue expanding the team and its office locations, Jefferson knew he wanted to run his law firm like many other successful businesses: using modern technology that could grow alongside them. We sat down with Jefferson to learn more about why he ultimately selected Litify as his legal operations solution.

The beginning of the journey

Q: What prompted the search for legal technology, and how did you find Litify?
A:
I’m an entrepreneur by nature. I already own and manage a restaurant, retail shop, and other businesses where platforms like Litify are the expectation. Before I made the jump to begin the Fisher Firm, I had heard that if you want to build a competitive law firm, you shouldn’t follow other law firms, but rather other businesses that are already successful.

Once I started the firm, I dove into the world of legal technology. And after scheduling dozens of demos of the different softwares in the market today, a light bulb went off in my head. If I should run my law firm like a successful business, I realized that on-premise, proprietary technology isn’t what I needed. I needed the software that the Fortune 500 companies are already using, but for a law firm. And so, I found Litify, which offered an end-to-end legal platform that also happens to be powered by Salesforce.

Q: What were you most excited about when you first found Litify?
A:
Even though we’re a small team, Litify puts me on par with any other firm with the competitive data we’ll now have at our fingertips. As a firm, you aren’t able to scale unless you have data and insights you can measure, as the saying goes, what you can’t track, you can’t measure. I’d already seen it the old way and it wasn’t working, so why wouldn’t I turn to the customer relationship management (CRM) software that’s already used by modern businesses? So I’m most excited about the data and performance insights that Litify provides.

Q: Where do you see Fisher Firm in the next five years, and how will Litify support that vision?
A:
The Litify platform is scalable, and it’s already used by national enterprise plaintiff firms, so I know it can certainly support my team’s growth over the next five years. That alone is an added benefit: we only have to implement a platform once and it will grow and evolve alongside us. Eventually, I’d love to open up three more locations for the firm and it’s comforting to know Litify will be able to support us every step of the way.

My goal with Fisher Firm is to do good work for good people and get back to practicing as a lawyer. Litify also helps with this as the platform streamlines and helps to automate the minute tasks of the day-to-day so the entire team can focus on driving positive outcomes for our clients. We’re a local team and a local firm, and I want Litify to be able to help facilitate those personal connections and relationships between our attorneys and clients.

Making the change to Litify

Q: How has your implementation process been as you set up Litify across the firm?
A:
Implementation has been great. The Litify team is more than helpful and is always available when I need them. Additionally, because the platform is built on Salesforce, we’ll be able to customize whatever we want down the line. Right now, we’re being patient, taking baby steps, and focusing on the essentials. I definitely recommend that other firms try not to take on too much at the same time.

Down the line, I believe the text message integration will be incredibly powerful. The fact that we’d be able to just click a button to call or text someone and have all of their account information pop up means we’ll be able to provide the most personalized experience for our clients. I want that for my team so that from the very first call to the very last call and beyond, we can send those custom text messages and conduct very personal phone calls with our clients.

The implementation process is coming at the perfect time too. We have a smaller team that will continue to grow, but everyone in the early stages of the firm will be on the same page regarding how to use it and we’ll establish the best practices for everyone else to adopt as we scale.

Q: What metrics are you most interested in getting out of the platform?
A:
We’re interested in everything that’s crucial to our forecasting. How many calls do we get a day, how many clients do we sign up each day, how many settlements and the ranges, how many demands, and how are we following up on them? We’re so excited to start building up all this historical data that will help us forecast our performance and metrics even better in the future.

The best part will be getting to use the data month to month, week to week, or even day to day. I can go into Litify and if I see calls are down this week or sign-ups are up this year, I can dig into the data to see how we’ve grown or where we need to optimize, which is only going to make us more competitive. And the outcome of all this? We’ll also be able to measure how Litify is helping us boost our customer satisfaction and the effect of that on our business performance because being better able to support our customers is the best way to manage and grow a business.

Q: How is your team planning to use Docrio, Litify’s integrated document management and creation tool?
A:
They’re going to be able to use document templates that will enable them to create and manage documents in just a few minutes when it may have previously taken a few hours. With other integrations and capabilities, you can take it a step further and mail out a letter or send a fax in just a few clicks. All that information is stored in Litify and associated with the specific and various roles within a case. I can’t imagine going back to the old way of manually digging through folders without any idea of what’s inside them or pulling up a word document or excel sheet to figure out where a document was saved.

Q: What else excited you about the Litify platform?
A:
Litify will enable our best practice to become our common practice. Taking that a step further, it means all our institutional knowledge will be saved in the platform rather than with Larry or Linda Lawyer when they retire from the firm after 40 years. In the past, when they left, there goes everything they know and we’re left wondering how to replicate those systems or track down that information. With Litify, everyone will know and help build those best practices in the platform together and every single document and piece of information will be stored and managed in the cloud for everyone to easily access.
